“How did you get into Acupuncture?”

I get that question a lot.

I was in my mid 20s when I realize my PMS was affecting my life and the people in it. My cycle was a mess: I was crabby two weeks out of the month and feeling guilty for my being crabby the other two weeks out of the month. I spoke to my gynecologist, but all she could do was put on an antidepressant.

I wasn’t depressed — I was hormonal! Eventually I found another approach: a chiropractor recommended acupuncture.

Acupuncture treats PMS

I kind of laughed and said, “no thanks, needles, qi, and whatever else they do.” How would a few tiny needles make any difference in my life?.

Despite this, one day I decided to give it a chance. I went to an acupuncturist at the Edith Davis Clinic (a student teaching clinic at NWHSU).

After two months of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and some motivational CD (Deepak Chopra), I was a the real me.

Not a new me, but the me that I knew I could be. I could not believe in 2 months I had a regular cycle, was not irritable, and could enjoy the moments of life. The day my son said, “I like it when you are not are not mad mommy,” I knew that acupuncture and herbal medicine had changed my life.

One day after my maintenance acupuncture treatment, I sat up and thought to myself, I want to help people feel as amazing as I do. I went up to the admission office learned about how I could apply for my Master Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture has balanced my hormones, regulated my cycle, and calmed my emotions. I know that if I had not taken that leap of faith and committed to the time and cost of my treatments I would not be as joyful as I am.
